Boy is there ever a lot of confusion here. The 98 (both E0 and E1) are rated at 195 hp. The 99 is rated at 200 hp with the explanation that it has more agressive extrude honing in the intakes. The 2000 is also rated at 200 hp with the explanation that the displacement of the engine was dropped slightly to meet international standards. The horsepower was kept the same by raising the compression from 10:1 to 10.25:1.

Let's hope that's true! I would like to see my SVT actually getting 210hp. What a great ego boost! Not that I don't need it! LOL!

I think 'Big Jim' has it right...or at least that was my understanding as well...

As for insurance...AAA classifies SVT as a mid-size family sedan...NOT a performance vehicle, and thus no additonal fees...I could expect to pay about the same for a Chrysler Cirrus or Toyota Camry or Honda Accord (bit less for Toyoat and Honda...seems japanese cars get slightly lower insurance rates to comparable US cars)

So what does a 1988 Mustang GT that specs 225HP *really* put out (stock)?

About 215. Ford revised thier Dyno methods in 1994, and it is the same 5.0 as the 1988 (California Mass Air) with a slightly different intake. All the 5.0's were downgraded to 215hp stock....I believe this is due to the fact that the 1996 4.6 ONLY made 215 too, so they lowered the ratings on the 5.0 to show the 4.6 can make the same power. My .02 anyway.

Do not even get me started on Ford. A SHO yamaha engine pushes more then 300 HP Stock in 1989-1995, but Ford didnt want a 4-door sedan beating their FLAG Mustang. So they knocked the HP down to 220. Still the 4-door sedan could smack a Stang around.

I will post tomorrow an explanation, as far as I know how this all works (don't have time right now )

It's all about balance.

actually in '93 the GT was rated at 205HP... (the more realistic numbers)

but really now, how many people would buy cars based on "real wheel" HP numbers???
