That doesn't seem like a bad option to me, especially if you're going to complete the project yourself. You should even come out ahead, right?

Brad,

I *highly* suggest you put the blower on
eBay.

I've MADE money from selling stuff on eBay.

You'd be surprised as to how many people
are willing to pay so much.

Simon got $170 for his SHO Shop pulleys. Go
figure.

this car has me just plain nervous. I just waved off all this talk about engine failure until it happened to me. The thing is I bought the svt nowing that I could make it faster, but I do not trust the supercharger. I'm hoping that the 3.0 is a safer rought than the supercharger, but I have no choice if I want a fast car. The first mod that I am going to do to the 3.0 is a mirko oil pan, no matter what he is charging.

I really don't think everybody should freaking out about the s/c, just because brad's motor went south. How many non supercharged motors have gone down?
I was just curious on the tension thing brad, only as a possible contributing factor, not the cause.

Rara, check the KC forums. PhatSVT is having knocking problems on his supercharged setup. Sounds like it is rod knocking. He is a high milage car with the supercharger put on around 50k.

Rara, I know we don't know what is exactly causing these problems, but I am looking for general relationships between the tour & Mondeo. Knowing the two cars are modeled after each other, what does the Mondeo have in its engine that the tour doesn't? Do they use different oil pumps? Oil coolers? ect... Knowing that they do more high speed driving do they have more problems that we just don't hear about over in the us??? Again, I am looking for the simple relations between to close designed cars.

Sincerely

Merlin

Merlin,
I am not an expert on the relationship for US/European cars, but I think what is going on as far as engine design goes is concerned a lot with the differences in the driving environments. Speed limits here do not exceed 70 mph so I think the American car industry thinks that they can get away with using cheaper parts, etc. in their cars. Also, I know my 98 SE Sport cuts itself off after 120... it will shift between 3rd and 4th gear not allowing you to go any faster and that is the way it was built. Over in Europe, where the Mondeo is you can drive the Autobahn and that is a place where a car that doesn't run fast is a dead car, so the engineering goes into building a car that can maintain high speeds for a long period of time. Of course, my theory could be just unloading a bunch of BS but I think that is what is going on, although I think the mentality of the whole situation is crazy.

Will I get an accusump? Probably not.
If I do I will just walk out to our warehouse and grab one, but I haven't experienced any problems with knocking, oil starvation, or any other problems to warrant the purchase of one.

I run 6 quarts of 5W-30 Royal Purple Synthetic and use a Mobil1 oil filter. When I change my oil the oil comes out clean so I know the filter is doing its job.

Am I worried about my engine going? Not really, if it goes then it goes... I am prepared for it.

In the June ed. of Car and Driver, they have an article about the upcoming C32 Mercedes, which is the new C class modified by AMG with the 3.2 3 valve V6 and a supercharger. Mercedes and AMG went through the engine strengthening parts, but what is most interesting is that they increased the capacity of the oil pump by 70%! Either the Duratec needs lower compression or a higher capacity oil pump to handle a supercharger. Ford even lowered the compression of the 5.4L Triton to 8.4 to 1 for the Lightning. Something to think about. That said, I can't wait to see Simon's supercharged SVT at the Ferrari Challenge.

Just make sure you have an oil pressure gauge. Mine gave absolutely no warning either. It was running very hard to 130+, I let off to taunt the WRX and show it I was faster, I hit the gas again and she nosed over... That was the end of it. It didn't make the knock until I tried restarting her on the side of the road...
