This won't be popular, but someone has to say it. Sorry that Brad had to find it out for the rest of us, but sometimes it's not nice to mess with mother nature. In this case mother being Ford. I'm not sure who manufactured the supercharger, Vortec? But I am sure their testing budget was a fraction of what Pontiac did for its supercharged Grand Prixs and what any car manufacturer spends for a turbo application. And then those break too. Stress on an already stressed engine.
Maybe its time to look to David Z and the 3 liter route and the SHOshops successes. I wish Terry Haines was still around to do the same. Unfortunately, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. A lot of you have a lot of knowledge, but few of you are automotive engineers and you should not be so quick to question those who are. It is one thing to sharpshoot a design in retrospect, quite another to design an engine from ground up. And when a supercharger/turbo is planned for an engine, designing for an integrated system must begin from day one. Not after the fact with fingers crossed.

Moroso make a 1.5qt accumulator for sale at Summit for $60! The Oil Accumulator II Or they have a version with the valve for $180 http://www.moroso.com/catalog/categorydisplay.asp?catcode=13600 Screw it, I'm buying one! The only difference between this and the Accusump is that the shut off valve is manually operated. But you could fit and electric one for less that the difference of buying the BAT unit. Screw it, I'm buying one! [This message has been edited by ATCC SVT (edited May 02, 2001).]

You gonna get one for your car Mark? You'll need to get a Filter sandwich plate too and some hoses and fittings. I would unless you wanna end up like Brad! Originally posted by MiStEGRYM: Summit.... -Mark

Brad, How tight was your serpentine belt? the reason I ask, is I have seen cases where a mustang guy will really tighten down the drive belt for a S/C and it will flex the crank a bit. A crank w/ extra vertical load on it would be far more susceptible to failure under oil starvation. In other words, I think oil starve is you problem, but the load on the crank from driving the supercharger helped it go boom faster.
Personally, I say go find a wrecked taurus, smooth down the pistons for a lower CR and toss in the 3L. at this point it can't be any more trouble than a new 2.5L
It's all about balance.

I've been digging into this in the past few weeks. As you suggest, finding a cheap accumulator isn't hard - there are still some choices (e.g. some can only be mounted vertically, can choose solenoid switch to trap oil in accumulator when shut engine off). What I've had much less success with is finding a sandwhich plate. Moroso doesn't supply them. I sent an email to another company that sells a generic Ford adaptor but haven't heard back - it was $60. Eric
