"Where do you guys get the idea that the cars have a low oil capacity???
As for the V-8's your referring to, they only had one camshaft. We've got four of them. That's an awful lot of oil tied up in the heads.

Hey, sorry to hear about that. Hopefully my little info can help you guys out. Apparently a lot of ford's DOHC engines have oil starvation problem if you want to spin them past 6k; The oil pump tend to suck the pan dry if you stay past 6k for more than 5 seconds or so. There are plenty cobra engines that spun the bearings because the owners are only running 6 quarts on both the street and the track. I guess contour just got the same problem since the duratec is one of the few ford DOHC engines that actually spin past 6k(cobra is another one). So just put an extra quart of oil in the pan for insurance if you plan on running the car hard.

Don't forget about oil frothing, the windage tray in the Duratec is a little "underengineered" IIRC....

Man brad...... sorry to hear about the failure. I know all to well of what a 'spun bearing' is. I relayed some information I was told by a mechanic that has worked on quite a few Duratec engines in the past; which was exactly what this post is discussing now. The fac tthat the engine basically sucks the oil pan dry and doesn't do well at balancing the oil over the entire engine during 'high rpm' runs. It's a terrible design flaw but nothing that can't be dispelled. So Mirko makes the oil pan. Who makes the sump?
