How many of you have owned multiple Contours?
I just traded in last night my 1996 SE ATX with 126,700 miles on it for a 98 SE Sport ATX with 37,300 miles on it. My new car may be "used," but it has 90,000 less miles on it than the one I just gave up. Hard to part with a new car that I bought 4.5 years ago with only 8 miles on it.
This 1998 is much better in many ways. It is an early 98, so it doesn't have some of the decontenting on it, like I still get the clock. It's also quieter on the inside than the 96. Being TRed, I like the color better than the champagne of the 96.
Just curious to know how many of you are repeat 'tour buyers....

I owned a 98 Mystique LS w/ 5speed for 9 months (sept 99 till may 00) until I deemed it to be almost a lemon, so I traded in on my "blackbird" as people call it occasionally.

I owned a '97 SE (Midnight Blue/Dove Grey) 5-speed prior to trading it in for my '98.5 SVT. I ordered my SE so that I could get exactly what I wanted (sunroof, leather, ABS). Aside from the sticking parking brakes (out-of-warranty fix), the notchy rod shifter when cold (didn't bother to get the transmission "cocktail"), and the Firestone Firehawk GTA tires that I hated (replaced with Dunlop D60 A2s), I had no major problems with it. I really liked that car...well, not as much as I like my SVT, but it was an very enjoyable car.

I had a 1995 Contour (program car) kept it for 6 months and then in October of 1996 got my 1996 Contour. I've had a lot better luck with the 96. The 95 had lots of bugs.

had a 98 SEV6 5spd sport, that never had a single problem except for the crappy firerocks. traded it in on a 99 SVT and the quality just isnt there compared to the 98. i think once the workers knew it was going to be discontinued they just threw the car togather. im now selling it because i bought a 98 M3 and the tour just sits.

The latest consumer's guide magazine chart showed that the 98 'tour had the best reliability rating of all the years. I know that is qualified by saying that "it all depends on the car," and I know that my 96 was quite reliable, though their chart shows that year to be problematic. The 98 I just bought is built much better than my 96, tough.
