Bought a brand new 97 SE MTX in June 97, moonlight blue, man did I love that car. Sold it a couple weeks ago after I bought a silver frost '00 SVT. Couldn't pass up a new SVT for $18,500. I really miss my 97 SE though, that was an awesome car, really felt like "mine" and didn't blend in the herd. IMO, 97 was the best non-SVT year because most of the bugs were worked out, yet still had a decent amount of content (mainly, the good suspension that was dropped in 98).

I'm not entirely sure that my SVT handles better than my SE with my really good tires. The SE FELT much lighter and not nearly as much body roll.

But I do love the sound of the SVT!!!!

I stumbled into my first Contour. It was a 98 SE. Two days after I bought it, I found this site. When I read there was an SVT version. Needless to say 4 monthes later I traded the SE in on my 99 SVT. I haven't looked back since. Tim

My first Contour was a 96 GL Zetec mtx. I bought it new in June of 96. That first Contour spent three of its first six weeks in the shop. At 2200 miles my dealer took that car back and but me in an identical 96. Except for the front brakes warping, the second 96 was great. However, while having my 96 serviced, I happened upon a 95 SE V6 mtx with 4,000 fewer miles. I still have the 95, and do not regret my decision. Maybe I would have kept the 96 if it had a tach, 15 inch alloys, and more power equipment. Later, Wes.

I have owned/leased the following:
1994 (M-reg) Mondeo Ghia
1995 (N-reg) Mondeo Ghia X w/ RS body kit
1996 (P-reg) Mondeo Ghia X Estate w/ RS bodykit
1996 Mystique
1999 SVT (current car)

All were v-6 mtx. I was in England on a foreign assignment for 3 years(my wife works for Ford)and thoruoghly enjoyed driving in England and on the continent.

The '95 Ghia X was my favorite, it was a 4 door sedan in Diamond White. The build quality of the Ghenk (Belgium) plant is a cut above our NA built cars. When the time comes to replace my SVT, I'll have difficulty finding something I can afford that is as enjoyable to drive.

I have pictures of the N and P reg cars if anyone would like them posted.

First came a 95 zetex mtx with 7000 mi
Would still have it if not for a brother in law ... totaled this last Easter and replaced with a 99 z atx for my wife. Mine is a 2000 SVT; shopped LS V6 Sport, VW, AUDI A4 2.8 & 1.8T Sport Package, Volvo 40's and a couple of domestics ... nothing even came close when cost AND performance were figured in. (@nd place tie: the LS Sport and the A4 2.8 Sport and both were at least $7000 more.
