Hi guys- some info on the Falcons (I'm an Aussie after all!) Standard varieties have a inline six cylinder 4.0 litre engine - two valve per cylinder nothing high tech and are a piece of s--t to drive. They are rear wheel drive and as mentioned not based on the Mondeo. They are huge when compared to my ST24- we're talking over 1700 kilograms here.
The T series are done by Tickford engineering (similar to your SVT I guess) and sold through seleceted dealers. They are very pricey ($60000 - $70000 AUS I think -if not more), my Mondeo ST24 was $36000 to give you an idea of how dear they are.
There is a new model that is being released in two months time that is supposed to have the modular V8 DOHC Mustang engine in it. The current ones have a 5.6l Windsor pushrod engine in them that is good for around 250kW from memory.
Personally I don't like them much- rather have my Mondeo.

I noticed someone mentioned the Falcon was a "sports" car- they are actually designed as a affordable large family car. As such the basic models are very average to drive and build quality is pretty average too. Tickford Engineering do most of the "hot" models, but there is only so much you can do when the basic chassis design is built to a price. For the money I'd rather an import than the local product if I was spending $70000.
The current model Falcon doesn't sell as well as Ford would like it to, the Holden Commodore (GM) is outselling by a huge margin. The new model Falcon sounds promising.

"The current model Falcon doesn't sell as well as Ford would like it to..."
I read on AUS websites that the 2003 BA Falcon is eagerlay anticipated, since the one shown in the above pics is selling poorly. Aussies don't like the "Taurus look" and it bombed. The Holden Commodore (Caddy Catera) is the #1 car Down Under. So, Ford AUS is fighting back.
2000 SE fleet, V6, ATX, ABS, no spoiler, T-Green/tan. Built 01/2000 in MO. Added 12 spoke factory SE rims, K&N. Biggest mod: ESP Plan!

And the Ford Falcon is not a Mondeo/Contour either. The Catera is an Opel Omega and is WAAAYYYYY smaller than a Commodore. Wait an see the Pontiac GTO (aka the Holden Monaro GTO) when it gets here. It's almost the same length as the 4-door Commodores (within an inch or so) and you'll see it is a much larger car that shares ABSOLUTLETY nothing with the Catera. Sorry to rant but I hate reading BS on this forum, especially when it's about stuff from my home, Australia - no offence.
