You have 15 inch tires, therefore, the biggest rims you can get are 15 inch. They do not stretch to fit..

damn so the only way i can get 17" rims is to get tires that are 205/60/17 or something like that, well i never knew that. I guess 15 inch rims would look aiight.

Just get some new tires, that way you could get some new rims. But yes, 15" tire = 15" wheel. Remember, tires are measured by the inner diameter, not the overall size.

When you do upgrade, there is only going to be a limited amount of room between the tire and wheelwell.

The first number is width - the 2nd the height of the tire expressed as a percentage of the width. Generally, if you increase the diameter of the rim, you are going to have to decrease the height or it will either not fit without rubbing or throw off your speedometer.

Do a little browsing. I went here:
http://www.tirerack.com

And it gave me 205/60/R15 for my 95 Contour SE. Hit the links for 16/17/18 and it appears to be suggesting that I could fit the following:

205/55-16
205/50-17
215/40-18

Just thoughts.

Unless you're going to have your speedo recalibrated, you need stay within ~5% of the original diameter as well.

I run 215/45/ZR17 with 0.3% difference.

Not if you're talking about fitting fitting your stock tires to the 18" wheels. There is no way, absolutely none, zip, never!

Fahad, you don't seem to understand how to read tire sizes so let me explain for you.

205/60R15

the first number, 205, is the width of the tire. A 205 is smaller than, say a 225. My VW has 175, a much skinnier tire

the second number 60, is the tires profile, or the height of the tire compared to it's width. A tire with a profile of 45 will look thinner around the wheel. When you get up to an 18" wheel, the profile numbers can get very small. That's where the tires look more like rubber bands than tires smile The lower the profile, the better your handling, since the sidewall doesn't roll over.

the last number 15, is the diameter of your wheel or the size of the opening in the tire. You cannot fit a 205/60R15 tire on an 18" wheel, it is too small, also, a 18" tire won't fit a 15" wheel, it's too big.

So as you get bigger wheels, the profile number (60) on the tire will get smaller. If you get 17 or 18" wheels with 60 series tires, your speedometer will go out of whack. (If they even fit in the wheel wells)

Hope this was of some help! I recommend that if you have the money, get 17" wheels and tires from http://www.tirerack.com

Luke, from tirerack is on these boards every now and then, he will be more than willing to help you out! smile

Honkeytonk forgot a few things...

the "205" is the width in millimeters
the "15" is the inner diameter (the hole) in inches....god only knows why we mix metric/customary
