High beams aren't good candidates for HID conversions. For one, the bulbs take a few moments to fire up and stabilize, so flashing your lights wouldn't work well and could possibly shorten the lifespan of the ballast and/or bulb.

New BMWs have dual-mode xenons that re-aim the low-beams in a high-beam pattern if they are kept on, but halogen lamps are still retained for momentary operation.

It's 24.99 per bulb, so 100 bucks for all four. I just put mine in this evening and must say that I am quite impressed with them, especially on hi. They are soo much better than the stock things that pass for light's.
As for comparing them to the PIAA's, not sure. I haven't seen the PIAA's other than in brochure's. Maybe someone else can answer that question.

PIAA? Bahhh, overpriced. I had a set, put them in, and actually returned it because I was disappointed. Stick with things like Siverstars or CoolBlues. To be honest, the Philips Vision Plus/Sylvania XtraVision are some of the best lamps I have ever used.
