While my 95 SE doesn't have a light, I think the original docs suggested it did have one. Guess they didn't make it into the early years.
I do something else to figure out when I'm about to run out of gas -- other than look at the needle. Keep a little book in my glove box with every drop of gas or piece of maintenance noted.
Of course, the wife doesn't write everything down - guess it's not important to her until the CEL comes on - and the kids are always looking for paper to write on while in the car - but it helps with problem diagnosis.
