Mmmm... Fluffy fluff fluff... yumyumyumyum.... Okay, for those that are lucky enough to have a 1995 Contour or Mystique, you don't have a low fuel light. Ford put it in there for people that complained about running out of fuel becuase the fuel guage is kind of hard to read sometimes  However, adding a low fuel light to a guage cluster would probably be a decent task as there is more than likely no electrical provisions for it. Plus, and attempt to tap into the fuel sending unit might throw off the fuel guage.

Whoa, something the SVT actualy has featrue wise over the 95 SE.
I don't think anyone means any harm. They assumed all Contiques had them. My 2000 SVT has a low fuel light that comes on when I put in about 13 gallons at about 1/16 on the gauge. I have put in 15.2 gallons before on a trip, about 60 miles after the light came on. I even drove it right up to the pump, didn't run out.
I often run until the light comes on. Why? because there is still at least 2 gallons of fuel left. I drive 70 miles in my commute and that means fewer stops at the station.

95's and 96's don't have em. Apparently 97's do. They decontented the brains of Contour drivers in 97.

A low fuel light saved my butt once (on another car). I was driving back from school to home for Xmas break (700 miles) and had been to a fraternity brother's wedding the night before. As you can imagine, I was quite hung over. I felt horrible, and my brain, malfunctioning as it was, decided that the more I drove the sooner I would be home. I was so dehydrated that bathroom beaks were unnecessary. Of course, I forgot that I couldn't make the drive on one tank of gas. I was in western PA, wayyy out in the boonies, in the middle of a snowfall when the light popped on. Good luck for me it was only 5 miles to the next exit, or I would have been walking for quite a while once the tank ran dry. If it wasn't for that light, I never would have glanced at my fuel gauge (which was in the middle of the dash on my 88 Trooper - horrible location) until I was trying to figure out why the truck was stalling out.

The first time my low fuel light came on was a couple weeks after buying our SVT . It was late at night & I just wanted to get home & then get gas the next day (I don't usually let it get that low , force of habit) . I went around a curve & BOING !!! On comes a bright yellow-ish warning light . It scared the crap out of me !! I didn't expect a low fuel light , since my '95 didn't have one . That sucker's pretty bright late at night . Now I just avoid the light at all costs .

Can anyone answer his original question about how to rig up a low fuel light? This whole thread went to hell with everyone *****ing about who is dissing who... I would like to know how to rig up a low fuel light. My mom just bought a 2001 Explorer and it doesnt have a Fuel light, it has a little red message saying "Check Gauges" and no little 'ding' noise. I personally like having the fuel light cause occasionally i run my car a little low and dont realize it. Cant we all just worry about answering people's intelligent questions instead of trying to make them look stupid??? Anyways, be good to eachother cause you never know when that other person might know the answer to one of your questions! Peace y'all... -Nick

Well , Chris Hitower had this to say ... Originally posted by Chris Hightower:

And he's pretty much the resident CEG electronics guru (you should've gathered that by now , even with only 123 posts ) . I'd say by what he's told us there , that it's pretty much impossible to do without major work .
