Anyone ever consider maybe rigging up a low fuel light? Using sensors from another Ford (Taurus?) and rigging up just a small light? Anyone? (Mr. Hightower, I'm looking at you....... wink )

hey dan, JUST LOOK DOWN!, i think the low gas light is for old people who dont ever look at their gauges unless something lights up or beeps. how do you know they never look at their gauges?, because they are always doing 15mph under the speed limit! no light nessesary.

Mine comes on at 12-12.5 gallons. I usually can get another 50 miles before fill up.

A low oil light would be nice, a low tire pressure light, a low coolant light(just kidding), and a low washerfluid level.

OMG...

It is officially the age of lazy @ss people!

Ever heard of checking your fluids & pressures!!!

Relying on a flaky sensor is just stupid!

I have seen people come in that add oil only because the oil light came on. HELLO. Damage is already done!

"But hey" I guess it keeps all the mechanics in business.

I know you didn't say it outright, but just to make sure we're all clear here, we're not that stupid.

As for being lazy ... well sometimes amenities are nice. If I wanted a stripped down, no option car I wouldn't have bought a Contour. Those touches add to the car.

I've never has it come on on me, but I did finally notice there's a gas light the other day! Turned on the car and was like...wtf, it's light in the sape of a gas pump. Wow, I learn something new every day.

Newer cars are going to start coming with tire pressure "lights" they basically put a little radio transmitter in the rim inside the tire and it monitors air pressure. I' mnot sure but I think there are kits you can buy too.

No. That was a general statement about people in today's society.

I have never seen a CEGer use the oil light as a fill reminder... I hope I never do... wink

Yes I agree safety lights & gauges are useful, but relying on them is not the proper way to maintain your vehicle. Be it a $1k commuter or a $60k luxury barge...

Nothing beats proper maintenance! Checking your fluids every time you fill it is cheap insurance over relying on a flaky sensor which only gets worse with age...

The same thing can be said for relying on the knock sensor because you want to save a few pennies a tank.
In order for the knock sensor to work there has to be detonation present. Therefore damage is occuring. Plus it's not tripped by the minor detonation and that still is damaging.

Being lazy, being cheap, you reap what you sow...

...okay soap box off...
