Over 1,000 officers represented their departments today in Madison Wisconsin remembering those who have died in the line of duty. Here are some pics. Quite an awesome site. Too many people think that cops are out there just to get them. Every cop has taken an oath and is willing to put their life on the line to make yours better. It was nice to see the support of the public, most the time people are swearing at us and telling us were to go. If only everyone could see what the families go through, it was a very emotional ceremony. Makes me proud to do what I do. (Plus we get to drive fast! j/k wink ) Check out that last pic of the Peon, wanted to pull it over because it was so damn FUGLY. Even has dual fart tips! Made for a good laugh at the end of a sad morning though. smile

As far as Law inforcement officers go, I think that people think everytime they see them, that they are going to get a ticket. But that is not true. They are usually going to another call. Not even paying attention to them.

I would be willing to guess if traffic tickets weren't given for speeding unless posing a treat to other drivers, people wouldn't hate them so much. What normal American would say, "go away cop" when being robbed, raped, or assaulted, NONE. What American would say go away cop, when they are pulled over for 61mph in a 55mph during the day time with no traffic around, everyone.

If cops did the job the were commissioned to do, "to protect and to serve" Policeman would have a better and higher status in the minds of people. The policeman has gotten to be disliked because of tickets, not because of enforcing non-traffic related crimes.

Enforce the laws of the land, get rid of speed enforcement, and law enforcement would get a break.

A policeman stands out on the corner at the largest intersection of town, and documents the license plates of drivers not wearing seat belts. Come on, if people want to die because of no seat belt, let them. We let people smoke, let people shoot guns, and let people eat high fat foods. That will kill more people than lack of seat belts.

But the local police departments know were the money is, so that keep enforcing the speeding tax.

This sickens me. Enforcement of traffic laws aren't just for your safety. They are for the safety of those around you, and if you aren't going to POLICE yourself and CONTROL yourself, then somebody needs to enforce 'em.

Those pics are cool. Hope everybody there is doing all right.

Speed enforcement is the law of the land. Police officers do not make the laws, they enforce them. If eating high fat foods and smoking were illegal, they'd enforce that as well.

If someone is speeding, you could say officers are protecting those around him.

If that is unsafe, then the police themselves are unsafe, just follow a police officer.

Better yet the police officer in Indiana that killed a mother and child in a high speed pursuit. And the Governor that will not pay the court issued settlement.

Totally getting rid of speed enforcement is ludicrous. Some people drive irresponisbly at inappropriate times, and their punishments are deserved. However, I am against using speeding tickets for revenue purposes. IMO that's a conflict of interest.
