The test light is used to locate each wire needed from the wiring harness of the car (i.e. - which wire is hot with the key , which wire is hot for the dimmer , etc.) . You can use the diagram in the How-To's (that show the rear of the clock) to tell where each wire hooks to the clock .

A test light is pretty cheap & available most anywhere . It looks like a pointy screwdriver with a wire hanging out the handle (and a clip at the end of the wire) . You ground the wire (clip) and poke at the connectors you're thinking about tapping into & when the handle lights up when you want it to (like when the lights are turned on) , you've found your wire laugh .

IF YOU WANT

You can make your own test light all you need is a old 12 volt car light and extension cord ((make sure its 12 volts)) most light have two places to connect a wire strip the extension cord and connect after that ground either wire to the car body and the other wire is use to see if the wire in the car is hot if it is hot it will light the light up if not it may be a ground ((but remember some wires are only hot while the key is in the on position)) ther you go light lights up its hot if not its not ((to make your own test light i would prefer a old headlight from a older vehicle square or round ones whole glass lights

Test lights cost about $5. Ground it and unhook your radio from the power socket. Turn on your lights. Push the point into each one of the connections. When your testing light comes on play with the dimmer. If the light dims, you have found the dimmer wire!

I went to a junk yard and cut my clock adapter out. I was going to use a USB cable connector but opted not to.

This was the first mod I did!
