Sorry I got caught up in the whole Mustang vs tour thing I forgot to comment on the vids. I like that color of mustang it doesn't say hey policeman look at me I am speedin. I think they call that puder grey. Burgman, the first mod I would recommend you get would be a pro five O shifter or a tri ax. The new mustangs with the tremec tranmission are plagued with fork problems. My friend has went through two transmissions before 12000 miles. then he put the short throw shifter in and he has had no problems. The aftermarket shifters have bolt stops to keep you from damaging the transmission.

I forgot to mention those were 225 50's that I was heating up on the SVT.

Burg, we should try the burnouts again once I adjust my friggin parking brake. That was actually one of my weaker attempts.

Love it man. Nothing like the wial of a 4.6 DOHC at 700rpm! laugh I got a good burnout video with mine, just no place to host it.

Any plans on mods? I would definatley recommend new shifter like Dustyn said. I am partial to the Steeda Tri-Ax myself, but the Pro-5.0 are nice too. If you need any mod-motor mustang advice, there are a few of us on here...just ask.

If I knew that you had your mustang sooner I could have told you about the group buy on stangnet. Aluminium drive shaft and your choice of gears for only 232 dollars and that was shipped to my house what a deal. But thats over now. I am thinkin they still have the timing adjusters and underdrive pullies group buy goin on but I am not sure. The group buy was on stangnet in the 4.6 forum.

I too have been lusting after a Mustang, and that video sure didn't help. I had one of the first 94 Mustangs off the assembly line, and loved it, not even sure why I got rid of it exactly.. Now a neighbor of mine just picked up a 2002 Roush Mustang GT Convertible, and everytime I hear him drive by (my god, that exhaust note is insane!), I long for one.

A friend of mine just picked up a 2000 GT with 32000 miles for $16K. That got me thinking real quick. If I can get my asking price on my SVT, that'd be perfect, as the car is already paid off and all, all I'd be looking at is higher insurance.

A question for the Mustang gurus on here. I much prefer the styling of the 94-98 Mustangs (both inside and out), but want the power boost that came with the 99s. Can the 98s be brought up to the stock 99 hp ratings rather easy (someone said something about a head swap?), or would it just make sense to get a 99+ and be done with it?

I'm not sure if IRS is for me or not, but can it be retrofitted to a GT? I'm looking for a fast car that handles good, but the car won't be seeing any drag strips, just the occasional street race. Seems like enough Cobra owners are taking them out, so there's got to be one available cheap smile

Ok, from what I understand, here's a few tips:

The IRS can be bolted in, as it shares mounting points as the solid rear axle of the GT...might want to double check that the mounting points were not changed between 98 and 99.

FRPP puts out a "performance enhanced" cylinder head for the 4.6L as well as a hi-po intake. These two parts will give you about a 40-60 hp increase, but here's the rub: They are mucho expensive!!! The heads are like $2000 and the intake is like $1200. Ouch. The good thing about doing this though is that you can probably get away with using the older return style fuel system.

What you "may" want to do is get an EEC, wiring harness, and engine assembly from a wrecked 99 and up stang. A few other things you would have to get would include a variable speed in tank pump from the 99 for the returnless fuel system. A great company here in georgia specializes in swaps like this...check them out at www.stangparts.com.

All that said, I'd just get a 96-98 cobra...going to give you less problems and less hassle than a motor swap, and will likely end up costing lots less.

The IRS can swap in place of the quad shock system on any of the solid axle cars from '86 up IIRC (whenever they introduced the quad shocks). I helped do it on a SN95 pony a few months ago. IIRC, as long as you get all of the parts from a Cobra owner, including brakes, lines, exhaust from the cat back, you'll be in hog heaven.

My girlfriend has a '00 GT AT 'vert that's a ringer and can take modded SVT Contours easy. Auto GT 'verts are so freaking easy to launch with the right tires, stab and go to high 13's with only a K&N drop in and removed intake silencer.

You can do a 99 headswap for less than $1k. That includes the ?PI? (power improved) heads, intake (ports are different, gotta swap it), 99 spec cams, and miscellaneous hardware. I?ve got the list of parts at work, I think. This is good for anywhere between 240 and 260rwhp on an otherwise stock motor. The smaller combustion chambers of the PI heads combined with the 96-98 flat top pistons will give you ~10.3:1 compression, compared to 9:1 stock. This gives you "a couple" more horses than the 99+ GTs. For a couple bucks more, you can do an 01 headswap, which allows you to use the Bullitt intake, which is good for an additional 5-10 peak hp, but much better power ?under the curve?. People have been porting the PI heads and getting excellent flow numbers, and usually end up out-flowing the over priced FRPP 2-valve heads. The FRPP heads/intake swap is a rip compared to the PI swap, especially once you factor in the cost of the FRPP ECM that you need to use to compensate for the slower-burning heads.

On the street the IRS will be fine. The swaps are bolt-in for SN95?s, like Brad mentioned. Complete suspension, brake lines, and exhaust is required for both cars. Add in some Griggs coil-overs and lower control arm bushings, a FRPP differential brace, and some poly diff bushings, and 99% of the infamous wheel-hop that is associated with those setups is gone.
