A friend of mine just picked up a 2000 GT with 32000 miles for $16K. That got me thinking real quick. If I can get my asking price on my SVT, that'd be perfect, as the car is already paid off and all, all I'd be looking at is higher insurance.

A question for the Mustang gurus on here. I much prefer the styling of the 94-98 Mustangs (both inside and out), but want the power boost that came with the 99s. Can the 98s be brought up to the stock 99 hp ratings rather easy (someone said something about a head swap?), or would it just make sense to get a 99+ and be done with it?

I'm not sure if IRS is for me or not, but can it be retrofitted to a GT? I'm looking for a fast car that handles good, but the car won't be seeing any drag strips, just the occasional street race. Seems like enough Cobra owners are taking them out, so there's got to be one available cheap smile

Ok, from what I understand, here's a few tips:

The IRS can be bolted in, as it shares mounting points as the solid rear axle of the GT...might want to double check that the mounting points were not changed between 98 and 99.

FRPP puts out a "performance enhanced" cylinder head for the 4.6L as well as a hi-po intake. These two parts will give you about a 40-60 hp increase, but here's the rub: They are mucho expensive!!! The heads are like $2000 and the intake is like $1200. Ouch. The good thing about doing this though is that you can probably get away with using the older return style fuel system.

What you "may" want to do is get an EEC, wiring harness, and engine assembly from a wrecked 99 and up stang. A few other things you would have to get would include a variable speed in tank pump from the 99 for the returnless fuel system. A great company here in georgia specializes in swaps like this...check them out at www.stangparts.com.

All that said, I'd just get a 96-98 cobra...going to give you less problems and less hassle than a motor swap, and will likely end up costing lots less.
