Those who replace speedo heads and leave the odometer zeroed out have to put a disclaimer on the car stating the miles aren't original. This happened a lot on early '80s digital dashes, before they figured out how to match the odometer reading on the new one with that of the old one. Companies who make conversions from analog guages to VFD or LED digital guages need the old clusters, not only to mount the new guages, but to match the odometer readings. As I mentioned earlier, that was the basis of my original concern.
