I found mine had been repainted, but it wasn't anything bad, expecially since I plan a repaint.
I pulled them off of my `96 this fall, click my homepage icon next to the post date to see it.
Its not hard, just DO NOT heat the door up too much. I melted the glue that Ford used to hold the door skin to the internal bracing. The door sounds like a piece of tin (I know it is) when you close it, all the others sound much more solid.
