Merlin,
Definitely a "fake" or recent fabrication.
All true GT-40s were right hand drive as they were intended for racing in Europe.
Other incorrect details to be gleaned from your photos are modern electric cooling fans mounted on the radiator; a high rise, single four-barrel intake manifold; polished aluminum/stainless steel engine heat vent on the rear deck; modern era turn signals mounted in the front brake ducts with lexan covers; modern era wiper arm assembly just to name a few as there are probably others that I cannot discern from the photographs provided.
I've only seen perhaps two or three original Ford GT's in my lifetime so far as obviously they are extremely rare & do not see the light of day all that often, many being in museums.
Not to say even reproductions aren't in & of themselves pretty cool vehicles...
Personally I've always wanted to build a GT-40 kit car, preferably one that was aesthetically authentic like an ERA, but with a late model 5.0 Mustang EFI drivetrain.
I would also not attempt to disguise it as an original as I have already chosen my personalized license plate:
FAKE 40.
Now that I've revealed it, no one else is allowed to use it, comprende?
