I've gotten in on the deal that BAT is offering for the upper IM and am also replacing my TB with the SVT version. I was on the phone with Gary Starr from FordPartsOnline and we were talking about how to make the TC work with the SVT TB. Both of us had no idea. I tried a search on the board with a few different terms and I haven't been able to find a how-to on this one. For anyone that has TC working through an SVT TB, how did you make it work, and what speific cables are you using?

Thanks in advance.

You should have no problem. Yours is a later car with spark inhibited TC, there is no connection to the TB, not like the earlier throttle controlled TC.

You might also want to check with Chris Wong from CTA motorsports ("cawong" on these forums, IIRC). Somehow, he's got a freak of nature SVT that, for some reason, came with TC. (traction control, right?) I'm sure he can help you out.

Paul nailed it... you dont have ANYTHING to worry about.. the tc will still be there no matter what you do... sans computer swap.... anyways.. just make sure you get the svt cable.

The upper is in the $250 range, last I heard it was not set in stone but they were saying 249-250ish.

Just to reassure you, any 98 or newer TC equipped vehicle has a complete electronic traction control system. Newer vehicles do not have the older style electro mechanical module that pulled the throttle cable.

Newer vehicles have a throttle cable that goes from the pedal right to the TB and nothing in between. To all of those non believers out there, there are no hidden devices between the pedal and the TB in my SVT, none at all. That is why we have been able to equip newer cars with SVT TBs, even did an 98 ATX Contour without any issues.
Works like a charm. All you need is the SVT TB, TB gasket, TB cable and cable bracket. After that, it is a matter of honing out the inlet of non SVT duratec manifold a bit bigger so that the butterfly passes at full throttle without touching.

Takes about 1 1/2 hours to do the conversion. Pulling out the old cable from the firewall can be quite the pain, sometimes. wink

I hope your right. I have a 99 cougar and I bought it new in November of 98. Why has there been so much talk about it? That seems odd that people would think there is a problem because all cougars are 99 and up meaning they wouldn't have a problem. Maybe the person who reported having troubles had an older contour/mystique.

carefull... early cougars have the old system.... according to fastcougar anyways. We think it was part of the big change in the cougar line on 5/28/99.... when the returnless/return swap went down.

Can't dispute you on that one but all the Cougars I have seen with TC have had the newer style TC. Could be that all the ones that I have seen are after May 98.
