I was really lucky and for some reason did not partake in the speed run. I actually saw the bikes and John pull out to pass the tow truck (I was ahead of them in the line behind the truck), so I let the bikes go and jump in front of John then get over. John passes me then Chris passes me. I pull over going about 80-90, and they are pulling away pretty quickly. I figure I'll chill out and let them have their fun, and I waited for all the others to pass the truck. I look in my mirror and see a car round the curve behind me. I thought it was Dan's cougar, but as it got closer I realized it was a cop. He blew by me doing 100+, but didn't have his lights on. after I got over the fact that he wasn't pulling me over (I had slowed down to 65 by the time he passed me) I got on the two way radio, trying to notify John, who was a few turns ahead. He had his windows open doing 100+ so didn't here me. So I round a curve and they are all pulled over. frown Dan and I Waited for them for about 30 minutes. We thought they were calling the Paddy Wagon or something.

Speed kills, but it beats going slow!

Chris was also hit for passing on a solid yellow line. Chris doesn't remember doing that, but Smokey is high tech and says he has it on video. David didn't have his license on him and got written up for that.

Ok, now the big question. Are you all going to pay it or are you going to fight?

hmmmm...

another good reason not to race on the street.

In IL, the fines would likely not have been so steep, but they all would have gone to jail....... eek

**** 100 in a 55? And they let you go!? That's arrestable here in Illinois (40+ over). I bet cops are used to this area based on what I read.

Let's see...

1/4 for John's car is around 15.1

David says he does mid to high 9's, and can pull high 10's, low 11's on one wheel the whole way down.

That wouldn't be a race.

PackRat, they've already gotten advice from the traffic ticket guru on the mailing list to get a lawyer to help them out. Since John may lose his license over it, he'll definitely be fighting it.

Well, I dunno if Chris will fight it, as driving down to TN from New Jersey would be alot of work for a ticket. Will the points transfer back to NJ? If not, just pay the ticket.

I don't think you can get arrested in NJ for excessive speeds, but I think you have a mandatory court appearance if you go over 99mph. I was in traffic court one day and saw the judge suspend quite a few licenses for going 99mph in a 55mph on the turnpike. Dunno how that would work for people who aren't local to the area.

Pay a lawyer a couple hundred bucks, sign a few forms, and you don't have to show up in court.
