I agree with Craig... the whole bit about applying the word "rice" to anything that people don't like has frankly just gotten on my nerves a bit. It just seems like a desperate reach by people who can't think of any other word to describe something they don't like and to deal a low blow to others in anger... why do we have to hate so much and try to insult people all the time? On the drag strip, we used to tag cars as rice burners because they came from a country where rice is produced in abundance, but it was not because it was ugly or tacky. Show me a stock Honda Accord and I will call it a ricer. Show me a good looking modded out Honda Civic SI.... ricer. Show me someone with an American Sports car with a 4 foot tall spoiler... I call that person brave. Calling a Mustang with a body kit that looks like it came off of a Honda a ricer is much like taking a T-Bone steak and putting sweet and sour sauce on it and calling it Chinese food..... you can, but it just doesn't make that much sense, when all you were really trying to call it is bad taste or ruined. Besides, when is the last time you have purchased a car where every single part has not had "made in Japan" stamped on it? If Japanese additions to cars make them rice, then all of us Contour owners are guilty as charged. Mystikal, when I see people who are guilty of the above 2 charges, I see nothing more than someone who was in haste to modify their car before they got all the money to finish it and make it look right, and impatient is more of a proper charge than rice. Just my 2 cents worth.
With the amount he spent on all that... "stuff"... he could've even made that V-6 Mustang a much better performer than it is.
To me rice is something that looks like it's fast but isn't.
And it's ironic, most cars that have actual power work done to them don't look like much hae been done to them.
I had the pleasure of seeing a stock looking 11 second Dodge stealth (street legal except for maybe emissions but I don't think that counts) eat 2 Riced out something-or-others from behind. I was laughing so hard in my helmet I that I almost forgot the light was green.
I think the reason you don't see that stuff for the Contour is that the "old(er) school" owners/drivers don't want to see the Contour go the way of the Civic/Integra/Jetta/Golf/Prelude/etc...etc... They want to stay the way they are/were.
Sadly - the ricer image is becoming popular and, with factories now bolting the parts on from the get-go (ie: Mazda) - the norm.

that car is probally brand new. Like i said in the first post he may have gotten a v6 b/c insurance was too high on the gt. i love the way people slam the aftermarket for stuff like and ball around saying "why does't anyone make parts for my contour"
who cares if you don't like it. you don't have to, b/c it's not yours.
when that kit is painted and he has his aftermarket exhaust on it that will be a pretty sweet car for a stang. not my fave car but i am sure it would be nice.
and about

a dodge stealth is a mitsubishi car not like an american 6 cyl turbo car is capable of 11 sec runs. don't bash the imports b/c you don't like the 92 civic the 16y/o kid down the street drives. go to a show like Hot Import Nights and see what the world has to offer.
Anything with the clear rear lights is riced in my opinion. This is a disgrace to all forms of mustangs. I think this guy should have not spent the money on the body kit but instead dropped the money inot buying himself a real V8 mustang rather than the BFF(Barely Fast than the Four Cyl)

Well, I have seen import races and the fast are few and far between. At least here in the NE. By fast I mean 12.5ish seconds or faster. And this was on a street by the way - not a track. And the rice boys were pushing for the race saying they could take the "american" car - to keep it clean. I heard from behind and just shook my head.
I have no prejudice in my rice-calling. I don't care where the car comes from (eg: This Mustang) if it's tacky and slow, it's almost always rice related.
One of the fastest cars around Nurburgring (7:56 I think) was a Blitz Toyota with massive wings and other stuff... But it NEEDED it. At almost 850 HP - It has to be glued to the ground somehow. Unfortunately - it starts to be imitaded on other cars... that don't REALLY need them. That's rice.
And I love this "It's not yours so don't say anything." Why else are they done up to be like this? People don't buy new clothes to look pretty at home. It's to show other people what they have. It's for the public to see. It's just like the fashion world and critics are part of the territory.

Yes Sal, you are right... the mods and all the money put into my car was for you. I spent numerous paychecks all for you... and just so I could drive by your house and show it all off and gain your acceptance and approval, and the simple truth of the matter is that I do not like the mods at all and they have no meaning to me whatsoever. In fact, the subs I am going to put in my car really aren't going to be so I can enjoy more bass, but to show you how much money I can spend... in fact, I was thinking about buying 20 of them, keeping them in the box, enlarging the price tags, and mounting them on the roof of my car (maybe with overhead lights for that impressive night viewing too?). Please. I do not need to impress others and gain their approval of my work to go on living my life, and any person who lives that way is simply pathetic. When I buy things it is because I like them and they appeal to my tastes. When I buy clothes it is because I think they look good on me and I take pride in keeping a well kept appearance... plus, all clothes at one time were new and people had to make at least one choice to wear to avoid walking around naked...... and since the whole point of clothes is to cover your body while in public, why not appear to have a sense of pride about yourself while out among them? If you can show me honestly that you are proud to walk around unshaven in torn rags without bathing for a week in public then I will withdraw my statement on that. Maybe there is truth to what you say, but realize it does not apply to ALL people as you implied. Critics may be part of the territory also as you said, and I accept that some people will not agree with my tastes, but that does not mean that the forums should be used for a free for all punching bag. I don't think you would take very kindly to someone calling your car rice, and if you don't think it could happen, read around on the forums and you will find that there is no clear definition of the term, and no matter what you say, you cannot prove that your definition is the right one, just as I cannot either. When it comes down to it, it appears as if the word is used very loosely by someone who isnt happy just insulting another, but wants to try and bring them down as much as possible from behind a keyboard. I dont think anybody is trying to say if it isn't yours don't say anything, but I think the point is that if a differing opinion is offered, it does not have to be your chance to metaphorically kick someone in the groin.
Originally posted by MIdnight95SE: So what classifies this car as being rice? I have a good buddy that has a nice 99 V6 stang. Its black with razzi gfx, SVO hood, dual borla exhaust, altezza clear tail lights, clear hearlights, CAI system, underdrive pully, chrome cobra rims, and few more mods. His car is so awesome looking. If you saw this car, it looks like it would take any car and put it in his dust. His reasoning for purchasing a V6 was because of the cost for payment, and the HIGH HIGH price of insurance. A V6 car is much much cheaper for insurance than any V8 performance/sports car would be. Well, just some food for thought. Thanks
LOL But after all the money he spent on the aftermarket mods, he could have bought a GT and lots left over! That's dumb!!! As for the pic up top? HOW GAY!!!!! I wouldn't be surprised if there was a flag hangin from the rear view mirror!!! HAHAHAHA I don't care how you say it but THAT MORON SHOULD BE SHOT for doin that to a car!!
