Its up to you to get in there and troubleshoot and share more with us about the problem. I fabbed a custom short throw and removed the reverse lockout altogether as well as the centering spring. I dont recall an orange clip. It does not make sense that you would nee an entire shift mechanism simply because you knocked off a couple inches. How short did you cut the shifter.?? Give us more to go on.
