I remember a while back someone from somewhere (descriptive, eh?) saying that they found if they installed the TCS (traction control system, I think that's the abbreviation in Fords) switch in their SVT it actually had all the hard ware, it was merely missing the switch. So I was wondering if anyone else knew anything about it. I was told that the Taurus SHOs have TCS and it's nearly impossible to spin the tires. I'm thinking this would be particularly useful here in upstate NY where snow and ice are dera friends. I checked and I have the wiring, I just don't know if it's connected to anything.
Thanks Chris

Here's the scoop. TC was not on the option list for any SVT Contour, but I currently own one that does. By fluke or by mistake, I own one very unique SVT. The wiring was already there for the switch, but it was already known that it had TC, prior. The traction control light lighting up in the gauge cluster, when the front tires were loosing traction in wet conditions, and during initial drive clean testing, were dead give aways.
The switch was added at a later date.

I thought they ,the tc cars, had different tbs? You have a SVT tb? If I recall there was something about the SVT that made it near impossible to put TC on a SVT?

very interesting, you have a 98.5 (E1) SVT and I have yet to hear from E0 owners about this "light"?
mine never came on - but I never spin my tires either :p

Well I spin my tires once in a while, when I do I usually spin them pretty well, and I've never seen a light come on, I guess there goes that option : (

TCS is part of the ABS system. It simply activates the ABS system to slow a spinning tire. It is not like the new stability programs (i.e. on Licoln LS or Mercedes). If you have ABS, then all the hardware is there. However, not all of the software is necessarily there. If you have an SVT with TCS, then you got a "supercontented" ABS control module (ABS & TCS). It could happen. Especially if they were short ABS only modules during Final Assemmbly.
TCS has nothing to do with the throttle body at all. There is nothing special about the SVT that would prevent having TCS, but I bet the ABS/TCS module costs a pretty penny.

I'm not questioning your info, I'm simply making a comment. I was under the impression that TCS was a thottle adjustment that cut throttle in the advent of wheel spin, I didn't think it had anything to do with brakes. That's interesting. The switch is "only" 22 bucks, so if you had it, it'd be worth the money to add traction control. If you were to buy that, could you take it back if it didn't work? I'd rather not risk 22 bucks!

that switch goes next to the defogger switch? if that is the case where does the TC switch go on mondeos? i think the switch next to the defogger on the mondeo is the front windscreen "de-icer"? just curious. would be cool to have TC here in NY you are right. i'll test my wheel spin light today... -eric
