I've been given notice by my employer that I've got until December 31st 2002, before I will no longer be working for them. frown
The warehouse I'm working in is closing and there are no other positions that I can be moved into.

I'm a 33 year old guy, still without a career! eek

I'm looking into the military or police service because of several reasons, they train me and I enjoy a challenge, just to mention a few.
The only doubt I have is if I can make the physical requirements. confused

Also, who supports my wife, baby and pays the mortgage and all the bills while I'm being trained?

Aaaaarrrrrrggggggg! mad

What the heck is a guy to do?

I need a career but I'm having trouble finding a respectable company that offers a great career opportunity.

Any ideas/advice?

Thanks,

Stephen

military life- just remember where ever you are stationed thats where you are... and you are locked down for a few years... I mean its great to get the training and experience but you gotta remember that it will be hard on your family and all... Justin has been in the Marine Corps for 2 years and some and he signed up for 5.. although we are not married (yet laugh ) and do not have kids it is still hard.. He is stationed 5 hours away from me and the only time he has to see me are weekeneds... even then if he has duty or something comes up he cant come home.. being away from someone you love for 2 weeks or so is hard to deal w/ ( i believe) but if you can stand it go for it smile the military is a great thing b/c of the training and experience and atleast you have a promised pay check every 1rst and 15th (I believe)... just my .02 worth I am sure justin could help ya out w/ anything on the military if needed his name is Smoothy if ya didnt kno smile

But, because he is married, his family can stay with him. You'll get BAQ (base allowance for quaters) or on base housing. So, you wouldn't be away for you're family. I thought you couldn't join after the age of 27. Could be wrong. I'm going through the same thing right now. I'm 27 and don't have a clue what I want to do for a career. My experience is in computer support, but that job market is flooded right now. Besides, I don't want to do that the rest of my life.

Get in shape, SRT kicks ass! NM you have a family... laugh

Often times regular PD requirements are fairly lax, my uncle was chasing a suspect through some backyards, and the officer behind him (way behind him) was a fairly "large" man, and he fell through a pool cover that everyone else got over fine. But I would still get in shape while you still have a job, and check out your "Criminal Justice" opportunities as soon as possible, there is an officer on here. Your goal is to QUIT your current job because you'll have a new one...not to wait till Dec. 31st...

If you joined the military you would be separated during boot camp and probably during your MOS training. Once you made it to your first duty station (assuming it wasn't an unaccompanied tour overseas) you would have the opportunity to move your family to you.

The burning question, though, is how to pay for things while your in boot camp? I don't know how that works.

Also, being that you're from Canada, the military rules regarding family could be completely different.

After a meeting with the recruiting officer, it is true that after I complete the basic training and "MOS" training, I will be posted somewhere in Canada at first.
My wife and child will be moved by the military to that location and all expenses will be paid.

As for my age, they recruit older people than me, I still have some life left in me yet! :p

How to pay my bills etc when I'm being trained was a big question that I had for him. The answer was that while in training, I would be paid. That pay can be used by my wife. Also when I leave my current job, I will be getting a severence package equall to 3.5 months sallary (before deductions). If need be, I can also get a consolodation loan to lessen the monthly bills. My bank is willing to re-mortage the house to include ALL our debt.

Also I should tell you that my wife was a Army brat for a long time and is encouraging me to sign up.

I've been told that when your a member of the forces, your part of a tight group of people that look out for each other.

Stephen
