He is stationed 5 hours away from me and the only time he has to see me are weekeneds... even then if he has duty or something comes up he cant come home.. being away from someone you love for 2 weeks or so is hard to deal w/ ( i believe) but if you can stand it go for it 
But, because he is married, his family can stay with him. You'll get BAQ (base allowance for quaters) or on base housing. So, you wouldn't be away for you're family. I thought you couldn't join after the age of 27. Could be wrong. I'm going through the same thing right now. I'm 27 and don't have a clue what I want to do for a career. My experience is in computer support, but that job market is flooded right now. Besides, I don't want to do that the rest of my life.
