The point of the rear detection antenna (at least on the V1) is to indicate where the radar is coming from. Nice to know that I passed the radar or that moving radar is approaching from the rear. Does the 8500 tell you which antenna is receiving the signal? (Not familiar enough with the 8500 to know.)

IMO, having a rear antenna is pretty pointless if the detector signals a rear and a front hit the same way. Even more pointless is a detector with only a front antenna depending on the signal to bounce around in the cabin in order to detect it.
