I just found out my job is taking me to Boston. I've lived in the South my whole life. I'm not sure what to expect. I've never been up there. I'm a Texan. Anyone from there or know anything about living up there. I hate the cold and snow unless I'm in the mountains, but I can adapt. Just wondering if any fellow CEGers are currently living up there. I could use a friend up there.

Cheers

I have a business trip scheduled for next month in Boston, lived my whole life on the west coast except for 3yrs in the midwest.

Am very interested in seeing the East Coast as well.

Change is good!

You'll have many friends "up here" if you check out the NE-CEG section (before contour.org gives its last breath wink ) ... believe it or not, we are the second-busiest branch of the CEG!

Oh and if you're interested in weather, my college forum has a topic all about our weather (I've been primarily posting) .... it\'s over here wink

some new englanders can be very hostile and unfriendly to southerners.
(definitely not me but it exists).

some new englanders have this perception that southerners are slow and dumb. those are the same ner englanders who do the least and talk to most.

check us out at NECEG. we'll show you a good time. when is the move???

As a transplant to New England myself, here's my take. The drivers are nuts !!, don't be shy on the road or you'll hear all about it. If you like sports, there is no better place in the world. Go RedSox !! The winters are tough but it depends a lot too on where you live in New England. I'm west of Boston and we get hit hard. Cape Cod on the other hand doesn't get a lot of snow in comparison.

The folks are friendly too (NECEG is a prime example). While there aren't too many bar-b-q places like Austin (I love Rudys & Ironworks myself) the local food (seafood!!) holds up very well.

Cost of living is expensive, renting/buying a house especially so.

Any more q's ... let us know !

Mmmmmmmm Rudy's

I'm in the USAF so housign shouldn't be too bad. The housing allowance for an Lt like me is 1700 a month. I definately want to get on the NE-CEG list, I'll have to post there in a few. I should be up there by the end of Aug. I should have my orders next week, and after a trip back to Austin, I'm Boston bound. Austin not Boston haha I love that movie.

Any suggestion for what part of town to live. I think the Air Force base is near Lexington and Waltham. It's Hascom AFB if you have never heard of it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Waltham would be a good choice. Living in the city would be difficult on your allowance and your commute would be hell. Good luck and welcome to the Commonwealth!
