I ran a subject search in this forum but didn't return anything . . .
I need virus protection for my computer at home. I now have cable internet and download a lot of MP3 files from Limewire. Are there any good free virus protection programs available? Where? If free is not an option, what is a good choice? TIA.

I just installed the free version of AVG. Thanks for pointing it out to me. I will let you all know if I have any problems or concerns with the product.

Esafe is what I use. It works very well and the send you emails about downloadable updates as new viruses come around. Zone Alarm And since your using a cable hookup this is a really good firewall to protect yourself from prying eyes. Guards against spyware and other sneaky programs puting your personal info on the net! Best of all, both are FREE!

i got mcafee for free or close to it by rebates at circuit city, it's really good and has optional firewall(it blocks me from doing anything on the internet though) and a hard drive cleaner.

You NEED McAfee VirusScan these days to do anything! These forums aren't going to last much longer so send me an email at shotwell@pugetsound.net or ICQ me at 18661371 so we can talk about it more. I CAN HELP YOU MAN!!

Mike I agree, Norton's is basically same thing so would work just as good. McAfee actually catches the NoClose viruses, where pop-up windows won't close. Though I do have some problems with it, mine updates only when it feels like it and won't let me check for updates(I could re-install it and it would probably work). Also it takes half a minute for it to start loading and windows won't let me do anything(other than strictly windows operations) until it's loaded.
