I'm not sure how NY works, but if IL discovers that you have a ticket in another state (part of the NVC is to report tickets to the DL issuing state), you are assessed that violation in IL as well. 3 moving violations in any 12 month rolling period nets you a suspension. We don't play around.

I like OH. Last I checked (when I was ticketed in 1998), they do not report vioations to other states as long as the ticket is paid. So my PA DL never had any points assessed. Dunno if they have since joined the Compact Sandman mentioned. They also set moving violation fines by county. The nice Patrolman told me that I was lucky he caught me in the 2 mile section of I-80 in the county we were in. The fine would have doubled on either side of that county border.
So IL is one of those states that require payment on site for a ticket? Wacky. At least PA (and OH) trusts me to send a check in 10 days. Of course, a few weeks ago we had lines out the door to Traffic Court in Philly because the city was about to implement Live Stop and everyone had to get settled up.
I bet AAA makes a killing out there (Bond Card is part of membership). If I ever drive in IL, I'll be sure to be carrying mine.

If you live in a state which is part of the NVC, we simply check "Promise to comply" on the ticket and send you on your way. You have to sign the ticket in IL. If you don't satisfy the ticket, you lose your license. If you live in a state outside the NVC, we can require the full amount in $$ right there. For a driving while suspended/revoked, that would be $1000 or a trip to jail (I take them to jail anyway, they can pay right there)! It's not so much payment on site as it is posting bail. It's treated like an arrest.

Trust me bro, do yourself a favor and dont drive. Borrow the $400 from your friends or anyone to get your **** back on the road. Trust me, I was inthe same boat last year, too proud to ask anyone to borrow 600 to pay an excise tax bill. I ended up with several tickets for driving unreg, then I had to take a class and then I had my license suspended for 60 days. by the time I was done with paying fines and ****ting my pants driving around on a suspended license (hardship licenses are VERY hard to get in MA) It cost me over $2000 not to mention that my insurance is going to be majorly inflated for the next few years. LET YOUR FRIENDS DRIVE!!!!

What about an out of country DL? Can you get data at the police car for say Canada? Mexico? How about European DLs?
I remember in 1982 when we were to taking a trip to California and we drove through Nevada. My dad was speeding and all the windows were tinted in our "custom" van, so the troopers didn't know there was a family in the Van.
One of the troopers stood in front of the van about 10 feet ahead while the other came to the window. When the trooper at the window saw my dad's DL, he kinda chuckled and said, "Hey, he's from Canada!" and the other guy just relaxed. Maybe they were looking for someone... Canada and Mexico we can get through the dispatcher, Europe,,,, I don't think so, but don't quote me on that. What is interesting is that I have a USAEUR (US Amy EURope, pronounced USE-ER-A -pronounce USE as if it were not a verb, pronoun? hell, I always sucked at English) driver's license from my stint in Germany in 97. It's still valid.

Virginia requires you to surrender any driver's licenses you hold from other countries/states when you get your Virginia driver's license.

Issued by Germany, similar to the international licenses you get apply for at the AAA office for your trip to Germany Since it was issued in Germany, it was good for me to drive in the USA on it. (I had a real live batchelor pad, so a real live German address...) I just couldn't drive in Germany on that license. That was covered by the USAREUR (the correct acronym, BTW) license. TB
