The nice Patrolman told me that I was lucky he caught me in the 2 mile section of I-80 in the county we were in. The fine would have doubled on either side of that county border.

So IL is one of those states that require payment on site for a ticket? Wacky. At least PA (and OH) trusts me to send a check in 10 days. Of course, a few weeks ago we had lines out the door to Traffic Court in Philly because the city was about to implement Live Stop and everyone had to get settled up.

I bet AAA makes a killing out there (Bond Card is part of membership). If I ever drive in IL, I'll be sure to be carrying mine.
We don't require posting of bail by out of state drivers. If you live in a state which is part of the NVC, we simply check "Promise to comply" on the ticket and send you on your way. You have to sign the ticket in IL. If you don't satisfy the ticket, you lose your license. If you live in a state outside the NVC, we can require the full amount in $$ right there. For a driving while suspended/revoked, that would be $1000 or a trip to jail (I take them to jail anyway, they can pay right there)!

It's not so much payment on site as it is posting bail. It's treated like an arrest.
