i don't get it, why do you say not to buy an SUV? i don't think i would buy a Corolla after reading that. she lost control not him, it's sad that she died but if he was in a Geo or maybe even a Contour who knows if he would have made it. it sounds to me like the SUV saved his life. i could be reading it wrong though. SHE lost control and crossed the line right?

It implies that she was on his side of the road but doesn't say specifically, considering how often people cross the lines on that road in the corners I wouldnt be suprised if they were both a bit over their lines.
Ponder this, if she did the usual "I need a bigger SUV than you" and was driving say a 2500 suburban his blazer would have gotten owned. I don't usually view Japanese cars as being particularly safe but I think it's somewhat obvious her car took the brunt of the assault. If they had both in say, volvo's I think they both could have possibly walked away.....
just food for thought

-Pete OR if they both had HUGE SUVs, neither of them would had noticed the crash. I hate the "People driving econo-boxes are in danger from being run over by SUVs, so lets get rid of SUVs" argument. And even your example leaves the person with the bigger SUV walking away. I don't particularly like SUVs, but I'm not going to fault them cause they will crush my car.

That may be because when a semi gets into an accident, the other driver isn't usually alive to give their side of the story... No, the laws of physics DO NOT work that way. I'd venture to say that if they both had HUGE SUVs, the impact from the crash would have killed them both.
All of that inertia in the moving SUV doesn't disappear when it crashes into another SUV!
