I took AP calculus and judging from my roommate's account, the difficulty is about the same, but in high school they spread it out over a whole school year, versus just half in college. AP US History was a different story; I did so much writing for that class, it couldn't possibly have been harder in college..
It sounds to me like you have a good grasp on math and stuff. Apply for engineering; it'll be easier to get in as a freshman than a transfer student. You can always transfer out, just don't wait until the second-third year like I did, heh...
