Yes, when they develop something new, old units are upgradable for a fee. For example, you can send back an old V1 to get the latest electronics to improve range or add laser detection.

V1 does not upgrade it for free (at least not all of them). My V1 is the last model rev before a bigger (hardware I think) change and it was something like $180 IIRC to send mine in and have a new one sent back to me. The differences with the new models aren't anything that interest me so I don't plan on doing it. I've got laser and I don't have a problem with my range, so it's no biggie. Nor do I need Ku detection (don't plan on being in Europe any time soon). I think the cost to upgrade depends on how far from current you are.
