Radar detector or jammer? I know these have been brought up before, but I'm going to be spending more time on I75, much more time. So...opinions, please.

My prediction for this thread is you will see the usual suspects...... 1) Many will come in and say that they love the V1 and its the best. 2)Then some will come back and say no, Escort/Passport rock. They will argue about the stupidity/Validity of radartest.com and C&D reviews. 3) A few stragglers will tell you to buy a cheep $90 Cobra or Bell. 4) The preachers will show up and tell you not to speed in the first place, so you don't need one. In the end, no-one is right or wrong, as its all a matter of opinion. You will ultimately decide on your personal detector. That being said, I am a user/believer of the V1 and think radartest.com is worthless. :p Edit: Just re-read and saw the Detector OR Jammer. Detecter all the way, like it was said, Jammers are either worthless or illegal.

well, since your question was detector or jammer, I'd say most definitely detector. The (legal) passive jammers out there are useless, and the active jammers that do work are very illegal.
radartest.com is trash. V1 all the way.

I just bought a Whister 1780! You can get it from www.whistlergroup.com for $85 plus shipping. I would suggest getting the visor clip and hidden wiring kit while you are at it! -Andy

I got pulled over today. My radar detector was useless because they used aircraft. My scanner was equally useless because I had turned the volume down to make a phone call. $67 dollars poorer!

Don't waste your cash on a Jammer. They are trash. I use a Bell 980. It is a hell of a good Radar/Laser detector. It has saved me many times over. I have had all types and I can tell you that the tests out there are worthless too. Don't get a cordless (Passport). The battery gets weak and the signal does the same. Whistlers are OK but not to be heavily depended upon. Bell is owned/made by Escort and has been for several years now. I use my detector for long drives all of the time. AZ to CA. Saved me much cash!
Good Luck!

V1 all the way..worth evey penny and then some (I suppose I'm a number 1'er) Seriously, what it can do is amazing. Once you learn how to read its warnings you will be aware of 99% of radar situations well in advance. Save up and buy one! (or wait for your b-day like I did)

What's the deal with the V1's? A guy here at work has one and said to get that. Said like if they upgrade their stuff, you can pay like $100 or something and send away to get the new one? What about tickest?

Beware any low flying aircraft that don't seem to be going anywhere but back and forth over the highway. I always keep my eyes to the sky as well as the road on a clear day on the interstate. I noticed this going on in OH a few years back. Single engine plane, drifting back and forth over the road, not really getting any further away from me. I immediately set the cruise for the limit and spent the next 45 minutes doing that. I'd never seen that before, but my uncle described what they do with that sort of speed enforcement, so I knew what it was. I wasn't surprised to see a LINE of OH Highway Patrol cruisers sitting on the shoulder near a barracks along the Turnpike, as well as the few people I saw go blazing past me up the road a bit getting citations. Don't bother with a jammer. Not only are they illegal, and most (if not all) don't truly work, but they are second-rate as detectors. Meaning, with a good detector you'll have more than enough warning and much more warning than a jammer will give you.

Yes, when they develop something new, old units are upgradable for a fee. For example, you can send back an old V1 to get the latest electronics to improve range or add laser detection. Ticket, what ticket? Haven't gotten one ever since buying a V1 several years ago...
