Yes, when they develop something new, old units are upgradable for a fee. For example, you can send back an old V1 to get the latest electronics to improve range or add laser detection.

Ticket, what ticket? Haven't gotten one ever since buying a V1 several years ago...[/b]
V1 does not upgrade it for free (at least not all of them). My V1 is the last model rev before a bigger (hardware I think) change and it was something like $180 IIRC to send mine in and have a new one sent back to me. The differences with the new models aren't anything that interest me so I don't plan on doing it. I've got laser and I don't have a problem with my range, so it's no biggie. Nor do I need Ku detection (don't plan on being in Europe any time soon). I think the cost to upgrade depends on how far from current you are.

Valentine One can't be beat as far as range goes... I often pick up cops running radar from a good minute or so away but almost always have at least 30 seconds warning. Also- on the jammer, my dad was a cop and a friend of ours bought the jammer... definitely didn't work for ****. $200 bucks or whatever it is, and we could read his speed without a problem. V1 is expensive, so it may not be worth it to you, but I wouldn't have anything else.

Snake, this was a funny post!

I'm willing to be a preacher ... I've never gotten pulled over because I rarely speed excessively (10 mph over the limit or more). Puts less wear and tear on the car too. Those 30 MPH signs on the New England back country roads are there for a reason ... can we say potholes? eek

Then again, you're talking about highway speeding. That's where I would like to have a detector myself... shocked

if i've said it once, i've said it a million times. line your cars interior with alunium foil and do the same under your hood. the foil, in theory mind you, should reflect off any radar beams and it also gives you a place to cook food while you drive. yumm, tasty oil soaked hot dogs, can't beat that!

Line your head with foil while your at it, for all the good it will do you. Lining your car with foil will actually make it easier for a radar gun to get an accurate fix on your speed, lol.

From a police officer's POV, yes, the V1 is the best there is at any money. Just don't fool yourself into thinking that it will detect laser. I have yet to see any detection device that will warn the driver of lidar before it's too late. And for all of you who are about to exclaim that your V1 or whatever warned you about a lidar trap, let me tell you that it didn't. What you got was a false signal. If you knew how lidar worked, you would agree with me.

My old roommate showed me an article in Maxim a few years ago about cooking in your car. Wrap up some fish real tight in foil, place on the engine, close the hood, go drive for about 30 minutes. Open hood, flip fish, drive for 30 more minutes. Remove fish and enjoy. Or something like that... they had all sorts of cooking times and recipes.

Well, I agree it won't "warn" you but I have had it go off when I was being clocked by it. Only twice though, and I am sure I've been "shot" more than that.

I use a CB radio, too. Since Lidar is stationary at this point, most truckers will comment on the officer pointing his LIDAR at everyone. You can hear about speed traps 20 miles ahead.

Fortunately, age has slowed me down. I am usually not more than 8 MPH over and use the Detector more for amusement than protection. In my more exuberant youth, I came close to losing driving privileges in NY because of the point issue thing. Seemed NY doesn't like it's drivers accumulating lots of speeding tickets.

I respectfully disagree Sandman.

Once (just once) I got an early alert. V1 goes nuts, I slow (from 10 over to the limit). Must have been careless use of the gun, because 10 seconds later he was in sight and clocking me. He was around a curve or over a hill or something. I forget the particulars (it was years ago) but he was definitely out of my line of sight (and I his) on the first alert.

I will agree that every single other time I got a real lidar alert (not a false) it was because my speed was being monitored. Once the MD Trooper decided I was a small fish in a big sea (10 over again). All the other times, I spotted the OH Highway Patrol in their predictable positions on the Turnpike well in advance of being hit by the gun.

Funny story: Two weeks ago I spotted the OH Patrol and slowed to the limit. He clocked me (twice actually) at 64/65. He knew I had been speeding because I quickly (but safely) moved to the center lane once I saw him and slowed. My wife says he pointed at my V1 on the windshield as I passed, then jumped out into the far left lane from his center position. He followed at a discrete distance (out of my sight because I was in front of a rig), surely to see if I would jump back into the left lane and get on it. I continued at 64/65 until we hit the next break in the median and he sped up just before it so I could see him, then turned around and (I suppose) went back to his old spot.
