Hey man, I want the SVT, but the reason I don't have one is because
1) i have to pay for all of my college
2) my parents provided me with a car instead of paying for my college. a car of THEIR choice.
3) i could afford the payments, but that is all i would have. i couldn't continue my other hobbies.
I've got my priorities straight, so don't imply that I just whine about not having one. I'm very fortunate to have a 97 gl!

How very true. But, a new Malibu is coming next summer based on the Opel Vectra, or GM Europe's "Mondeo clone".

Maybe Ford will reconsider and bring the Mondeo over since GM is bringing it's rival here, too. wink
I thought the Saturn L series was based on the Vectra....oh well, I'm wrong again. The Vectra is a pretty good car, especially the GSi version.

I look forward to seeing it.

I had a thought while replying to another post about a CSVT owner wondering if his car was a lemon. What if all the gripes about these cars have somehow influenced trade in value? If a dealer thinks he's going to have to put in X number of dollars to fix up a trade in, he's going to have to buy low so he can still make money without asking a abnormally high price when he's trying to sell it. The irony here is that these cars are getting a bad rep, sometimes due to abuse which really isn't the car's fault. Now that bad rep has hit the market place and it's going to bite all of us in the arse, whether we've abused our cars or not. Too bad the car will never be able to redeem itself as the damage has already been done. It doesn't matter much to me though as I have no intentions of selling my CSVT. laugh

If you bought a Ford expecting to retain value, you need some automotive education.

I had a 1994 Mustang before this, and even with with 90K miles on it now (passed it down to my sister), I could get at least 1/5th of my original sticker price. I can't even get 1/5th of my original sticker on my 1998 SVT with 48K miles. This goes way beyond Ford resale values, it just plain sucks.

I think most dealers (and others, in fact) lump these cars in with all the generic 4 doors tooling around. To the uninformed,a Contour is like a Saturun SL which is like a Mazda Protege which is like a Nissan Sentra which is like a Dodge Stratus, etc etc. To most people, a Contour is a used car. A friend of mine steered me away from some other cars and into a Contour just recently, and even though I got hosed (the car is giving me big time headaches) I still like it better than others I have driven. Plop a Toyota badge on it, and all the mags would hoot and holler about how great it is. Say Ford, and you get the evil eye.

I'm actually glad the dealer would only offer me $3000 for my 98 GL when I went to look at a 2000 SVT with 7k miles. This caused me to not get the car. Now, she's pretty much paid off and getting a turbo treatment. AND, it's going to look like the SVT I've always wanted.

Sujeet gets bored, easily :p smile

This thread is exactly why one should never sell to a dealer if at all possible. Sell privately and you can always get more than those bas***d dealers will offer. It's really not that difficult to do.

I made it work for me at a dealership. Jan 2001, I traded a 99SE with 14.5K for a 98 E0 SVT with 35K on the clock. My SE + $2700 cash.

I just reminded them how a 4 door car with a stick could sit and rot on the lot.

They decided they would rather have my V6/ATX SE laugh
