I have to get riled up to write halfway decent; otherwise I'm as literate as the cast of Hee Haw after a box of Jack Daniel's...

Use search, LOL http://www.reagan.utexas.edu/resource/speeches/1983/33083a.htm

Ironic, this was taken from a speech Ronald Reagan gave regarding the deployment of intermediate nuclear missiles in Europe. Something I know about, since I was on the US side of that game. I served three years with the 56th Field Artillery (A Pershing II, intermediate Nuclear Missle Unit, see the missle in the Smithsonian Air and Space in DC, standing beside a Soviet SS20.)

So it make sense doesn't it, especially when you put all the words in there:

Quote:
President Ronald Reagan said:
When it comes to intermediate nuclear missiles in Europe, it would be better to have none than to have some. But if there must be some, it is better to have few than to have many. If the Soviets will not now agree to the total elimination of these weapons, I hope that they will at least join us in an interim agreement that would substantially reduce these forces to equal levels on both sides.

whew i was thinking it must have been something like that anyway...i just remember it from some radio show i used to listen to back then and they took that bite and used it often...that part stuck in my head but i had no clue what it was from

im so enlightened by this site

Why does it matter if they are dead or not? What they stood for is STILL being fought for right now.

-Antonio[/b]
And that is why we talk about Louis Farakhan(sp) and Jessie Jackson. People who are alive are current event. The dead guys above are history! I didn't say that what they stood for meant less just that they in particular are dead!

Now that I am older, married and in a career, I find myself annoyed with the same causes I used to feel strongly about.

I think if you were to survey a group of people when they were 16 and again when they were 30, you would see that the majority of them become more conservative.

The simple fact is you realize that the world is an unfair place, you can't achieve world peace, there will always be world hunger and disease will continue to plague the globe.

And before you call me a pessimist, consider me a realist.

It is because a company that chooses to employ illegal labor isn't going to worry about paying below minimum wage for that labor, and in fact is exactly why they chose to employ illegal labor.

It's about saving money, and exploiting cheap labor, which can only happen because the opportunities and living conditions in Mexico are so substandard that the illegals make a choice to have their
labor exploited here rather than staying in Mexico.

Any questions?

First off, this thread rocks. It is thru intelligent debate that we grow as a people.

In my humble opinion, I blame many things wrong in this country on two things: Nazis and leasing. The two Great Wars (like anything is great about war) drained our country (and others of course) of our best and brightest. Sure many people were drafted but many volunteered as well. The same mentality behind volunteering is what gave our country such a strong core. People willing to get off their duff and give it all for what they believed in. A lot of these great people died leaving a lower percentage of "decent folk". Additionally, as evil as the Nazis were they ran a tight ship. Many of our leaders looked at the German government and took notes. Gun control in it's current form has definite roots in Hitlers Germany. So between the death of the best of us, the jading many others and people who think that Hitler had "good ideas" the Nazis left a strong impression on us.

Leasing is also a totally rotten concept from a civil point of view. Financially? Sure, it's ok. It's the mindless activity that leasing inspires I detest. To borrow a term from the quality buzzwords, ownership is of vital importance when it comes to giving a damn. People tend to only care when they have a vested interest in something. People that lease and know they are going to give the car back later has less incentive to take care of the vehicle. People drive the crap out them and don't maintain them. People have to feel involved in the events that surround them or they won't care what happens and when people stop caring is when everything goes down the crapper. Vested interest is what runs our economy, our country. I think a lot of problems come from people who think they are not part of things.

Please don't focus on leasing itself, I was just using that as on example of "ownership" leaving everyday life. I have a friend that takes great care of his leased vehicle, of course he also is a good father and has a great work ethic as well. Also, if someone wants to go off on gun control, start another thread, don't want to derail this one, a decent conservation is damn hard to find these days.

Brian,
The question/statement I was trying to make is why aren't the native people of this country doing these jobs (the terrible, poor-paying ones)? Somehow in this "everybody deserves a higher education" stupid people with no skills became too good to work at crappy jobs.

I'm 21 and have held some real nasty or poor paying jobs, despite being an intelligent person. I guess I am one of the few who realizes that this is part of life, and life isn't fair

-Pete
