Well after 10 months of designing with the world's top educators, architects, and urban planners, this is what the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation has come up with.

I think they could have done better.

Scheme 1 - Memorial Plaza
Large plaza with the footprints of the two towers, one new large tower, and 4 non-descript office buildings

Scheme 2 - Memorial Square
Large enclosed plaza with the footprints of the two towers, one new large tower, and 3 non-descript office buildings

Scheme 3 - Memorial Triangle
Large plaza with one enclosed footprint and one open footprint of each tower, a large tower, and 5 non-descript office buildings

Scheme 4 - Memorial Garden
Large Plaza with one hard-surfaced and one open-surfaced footprint of each tower, a large tower, and 4 non-descript office buildings

Scheme 5 - Memorial Park
Large plaza with tall monument, a large tower, and 4 non-descript office buildings that face the plaza

Scheme 6 - Memorial Promenade
Two smaller plazas with a tall monument, two large towers, and 3 non-descript office buildings

I think they should build them as they were. Leaving memorials gives terrorists a legacy.

The new towers will not be as tall as the old ones. Anyone here want to work on the 86th floor of a new tower? People might say they will, but it's going to be hard to find a company willing to fork out the money required to rent that office space after they ask themselves that question.

I like the idea of leaving the footprints of the old towers undeveloped, but I also like the idea of building two (smaller) towers similar to the old ones as well. Hopefully the final design will have both. None of these do that.

You have to leave a memorial of some sort. Similar idea as the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor. "Let us never forget ..." A lot of people died that day. To fail to leave a memorial is unthinkable to me.

I couldn't have said it better, so I won't even try...

While I dont mind the foot print idea and I think its a great way to pay tribute to the actual towers. I think it has some flaws. Since there is now just a giant hole there there going to be measured out and placed "aesthestically". I wouldnt doubt they would even be moved a little to be able to place another building in there. If they are moved you know how people will freak out these days. I think if they do the footprints they should be very very carefull in there planning or just skip the idea all together and come up with another memorial. I think we should be paying memorial to the people, the buildings will be replaced.

Well of course not having any sort of memorial would be wrong, but turning the old grounds into one big memorial would just put smiles on the faces of terrorists. That's what they did in OKC. Yeah, there may be token office buildings in those plans, but no world landmark like the WTC was. They need to show that no one can tear us down by putting an even better world-class landmark in the spot of the WTC.

I like scheme 6, still has the memorial but at the same time shows our defiance to them by reconstructing 2 towers again.
