I'm using it to share the connection with my mom's computer. It slows down the computer a bit.

Using a Linksys BEFSR41 Router with my cable modem.

Works easily out of the box, has some advanced features you can play with when you get comfortable with it, cheap.

Not the best, but does what I need.

Always make sure you have anti virus software, and some sort of fire wall to protect your computer.

Internet connection sharing would not work in your case. Although I have used it, basically if you had 2 NIC's or a modem to the net and your computer had to be the gateway for your 'network' (hope that didn't confuse you too much).

Get a router, under $100 can get you a belkin or netgear or linksys or d-link..... Most of them have integrated firewalls which are really good, if you don't do a lot of gaming.

You could get a hub too, for like $40-50 but there is a bit of a performance hit, especially if you have more than say 2-3 computers on it

Pick up some Cat5. Unless you can find 5e or 6 for close to the same price. You won't be pulling enough data across to notice any difference. Hell, you could even run cat 3 if you so desired.

Get a Gateway router! Like an RP114 Net Gear. That way you have one external addy and can hook as many PC's up to it was you want!
