Get a router, under $100 can get you a belkin or netgear or linksys or d-link..... Most of them have integrated firewalls which are really good, if you don't do a lot of gaming.
You could get a hub too, for like $40-50 but there is a bit of a performance hit, especially if you have more than say 2-3 computers on it

[/b]Pick up some Cat5. Unless you can find 5e or 6 for close to the same price. You won't be pulling enough data across to notice any difference. Hell, you could even run cat 3 if you so desired.
