Well, my gf's parents are buying her a new car. She wants something that is reliable. Her parents gave her a ceiling of $4500. I already told her about a 4 cyl tour. Any other suggestions?

A friend of mine has an '89 Corsica, pretty damn reliable for a 13 year old car. It was definately made to last, but with $4500 you could find something a lot better.

Well, let me just add that she is VERY picky. She likes Accords, she likes sporty type cars. A Corsica is out of the picture though cause it isnt her style smile . What is a good car that has a bad resale value?

May not be sporty, but the most reliable car I've ever seen/had is a Taurus. I drove an '86 for a year that was my parents' that they got brand new and it's still runnin for a guy at work who bought it...16 years and still strong, hard to top that... wink

Taurus = junk, my parents had one, and it was in the shop every third week from day one (they bought it new).

Older honda's (the 4500 dollar kind) are more basic transportation than "sporty".

Corsica + Grand Prix = GM WTF!? They represent everything that is wrong with american automotive styling, along with the tremendous amount of underengineering that goes into any GM car that isn't a vette or caddy.

Contour...reliable? I love my car, but what the hell are you somking? Waterpumps? 4 bangers are not impervious to that either. They also need their timing belts changed to prevent catastrophic problems. Warped brake rotors up the whazoo. Ford front wheel drive auto trannys are complete garbage.

Don't even think about Dodge.

I think in terms of reliability, and a sporty image, and older VW would be great. A GTI, 16 valve jetta, or whatever. VWs last forever, especially those with 4 cyl motors.

Only diesel VW's have been proven to last "forever". Gasoline powered Vdubs have only been proven to last "a long time". wink

Still sporty, didn't do too bad for safety, decent power and handling, good for $200k. Heck for $4500 she could probably get a zx2 laugh
