no offense Dan (for once laugh ) but you have no idea how many Siemens phones get returned where I work because they are pieces of shiet.

someone mentioned uniden, They make pretty decent phones (very close to Panasonic IMO) However from my POV they seemed to have dropped off a little bit in the last few years. As far as unidens go in the 900mhz arena a EXAI3955 or EXAI3985 (one has caller ID one doesn't) for 2.4ghz units a TRU3455 or TRU3485 (same deal with the caller ID)

2.4 ain't nothing special. I've tried 2.4 and 900. They have basic same range and clarity, but 900 is cheaper and more common.(And people with cordless headphones can listen to u'r conversations).

Panasonic phones sound the best, but they generally start to have keypad problems after 2-3 years. I'm on my 4th one now - Keep buying them because the sound quality is great, but I'm getting tired of the numbers slowly dying on me.

My junky V-tech cost a third of the price, sounds nearly as good, and has been through hell and back and is still as good as new. Your mileage might vary.

I just bought a cheap 900 mhz cordless phone for $20. The sound is crap! I am pondering taking it back to get a better one.

Have three Panasonic cordless here now, all have been terrific. Including an old 25 channel (49mhz?) analog with ans machine that calls my pager number after someone leaves a message.

We have a Uniden in the kitchen...Answering machine, CID, and Cordless...and it's the biggest POS we have (Even though it's rated #1 by COnsumer reports  ) Was $150 at Best Buy, and it's worthless. You can't be on it for more than an hour without the battery going low (Yes, we've bought new battery). We also have a few Sonys, and they have been great, we have a brand new 2.4ghz in the familyroom, CID (second line...) answering machine, and cordless, hasent been any problems at all. I have a 900mhz Sont in my room, with CID, it's a great phone, just theres something rattling in it...so it rattles when your using it. Buy...just my 2 cents smile I hope I helped, and not just rambled on... :p

I would stay away from uniden as well. I know that they are supposed to have a very good reputation but ours sucks. It's a 900 with CID and answering machine. It was supposed to be $150 but they had the wrong price tag on it for $40 so we bought two and gave one to someone else. I guess it was worth $40 but if I bought it for $150 I would have returned it.

[rant] When I worked at Sears electronics dept., nobody wanted the cheap Vtechs. They all wanted the nice brand-name Panasonics or Sonys. Tell me why, then, do we have TWO and they both work better than any cordless I've ever seen? My own (VT-1421) is smaller than a cell phone and has about 1/4 mile range. eek And it cost me all of $39.....two years ago......
[/rant]

Good luck with your Panasonic! They sure are popular...
