Um... ANY server I've ever touch outta the box from Sun has been sys-unconfig'd... therefore, there is NO password for ANY account ( root or otherwise ).
But to the point of the post... as stated, the only (legally) way you could trace an IP -> account/email is through a court order. And you'd likely never see the results of that... ISPs are required to backlog 4 years of authentication/accounting logs.
Illegally... well, I guess we'll all leave that up to you to figure out.
