I want to find out if anyone is interested in making/buying a kit to make their sunroof controllable through their car remote.
The kit my friend Steve and I designed allows you to one-touch open the s'roof while your key is on, as well as allows you to open or close it with your keyless entry remote. It's very practical when you like driving with the roof open and don't feel like sitting there closing it by hand when you stop. You just punch the buttons on your remote and it will roll it closed while it is locking the car and arming the alarm.
It will work with the factory keyless entry sytem, or if you don't have one it should work off of any installed alarm.
If any of you are interested then let me know.
I would be willing to make kits that you could assemble yourselves, or build them for a higher price, but there has to be enough interest.

The control module provides three functions, not one. It allows one-touch open and the ability to open and close the car with either the factory remote control, or a remote that comes with an alarm.
The difference is the convenience. Its great on a hot day to roll open the sunroof before you walk out to the car in order to cool it off.
The other benefit is durability. It uses all digital circuitry, no circuit breakers. Circuit breakers eventually wear out as you may know on the blinker systems of older GM cars for example (called a flasher).
Of course if someone only wants one function, that of the one-touch, then the other way is simple and cost effective.

What would you be charging and how hard would the install be?

I'd be interested in an express open and close kit. The use of the remote does not interest me as much. Just one touch open, one touch close. That would be sweet. I'd be down for one of those if this input helps. Keep us posted. eek

The install is pretty easy. Just power, ground, lock input, and unlock input. There are two relays which need to be spliced into the factory switch open and close wires.
Durability is good since it is all solid state electronics. If the system fails, then it works normally because the relays are wired in such a way that the switch contacts are still connected when they are not turned on. I will work like factory if the module ever failed.
The lock/unlock inputs could be from either the factory keyless entry or an alarm. If its factory, I have the schematics for it, so I will probably be posting them.
I mounted my circuit board and the two relays in the roof area. I wrapped them in foam to keep them tight and stuck them to the left of the controls. I then ran the power and lock/unlock wires up the pillar moldings.
Cost. I hesitated to list cost because I am trying to find a way to make them cheaper. I think I can do the kit already built for around $60. This would be a very professional looking module, and it is designed very similar to the way Ford does the one-touch open on the window. The one-touch part is actually quite simple but I am not going to make a module that does just that. If you only want one touch, then do the other method at $30. The more people that want a module, the cheaper it is to have the circuit boards made, therefore the cheaper I can make it. I can't really get a good deal on relays unless I buy a lot.
Hope this helps,

Warmonger,

Drop me a line, as I am very interested having my moonroof and possibly windows open and shut via my factory keyless entry. I have installed Chris Hightower's express open moonroof, which works great, BTW.

Thanks,
Chris

well what about the range...we all know the range of the keyless entry sucks, im assuming it is going to be the same for the sunroof. frown
