I took 8 cross country trips from CT to Los Angeles where I was going to school. Don't remember the miles but it took 51 driving hours; split up any way you want. Tolls are essentially an East of the Mississippi phenomenon and didn't amount to much. Fondest memory is night driving in the Plains States where the roads are flat and arrow straight for a million miles. You end staring into oncoming headlights for three days before they pass. And then another set peeks up over the horizon...
