I work in the Albany office of a member of the NYS Legislature whose district happens to be located in Nassau County - if you read the 5th paragraph in the article linked above, you will indeed see that the average pay for a Nassau County police officer is over $100K per year.

Guess I am working in the wrong part of the country, lol!!!!

Anyway, that is by far the exception to the rule. I'd guess that the average starting wage for police officers nationwide is ~$38,000. That's a far cry from $100k!
