Be afraid. Be very afraid. Legions of van drivers are soon to be beating a path to their local Ford dealership to snap up the new Focus van, and given the lively handling and performance of the diesel Focus, will soon be terrorising every outside lane and back road in the country. Not content with having the number one spot in the car-sales chart, the Focus is set to dominate the LCV market too, thanks to its well-equipped and rather attractive van derivative. Powered by the 1.8 TDdi Duratorq (non-common rail) 89bhp engine, the Focus Zetec Diesel van offers durability, performance and economy to the commercial user, with the Focus' legendary handling and good looks to add to the fun.

Based on the Focus Zetec passenger car, the van comes groaning under the weight of standard equipment with 15" 5-spoke alloy wheels, front fog lamps, remote control central locking, a CD player with column mounted controls, electric windows, electrically adjustable and heated mirrors and twin airbags all standard. ABS and metallic paint are options.

'The Focus van should hold terrific appeal for the commercial driver,' comments Eddie Murphy, Chairman and MD of Ford Ireland.

'Alongside the practicalities of a van, it offers the acknowledged superior driving quality of the Focus car and a level of appointment that surpasses everything in the sector. Its styling is such as to minimise the impression of a van.'

Incidentally, the German standards authority, the TUV, recently conducted a survey of cars between one and three years old and found that the Focus was the most reliable new model of the 107 that they examined, with over 92% of Focus' having no faults at all. The Focus van is available for a good-value € 18,500 including VAT.

Is it just me, or does the "Focus Van" look like a ZX3? Anyone ever seen a 2 door van the size of a Civic?

That would make a good rural postal carrier vehicle. Just give it RHD over here.

I could see something like that as my service vehicle.

Like we'll see a diesel van anytime soon in the US.

No joke. Euro manufacturer's have been doing this for years. Take the rear seats out, replace the rear side windows with metal and you have a commercial vehicle. They are eligible for lower taxes and you can write the VAT (sales tax) on the diesel off against tax as well.

Seriously though, you guys think this is a wind-up ??
