Well seeing as how prices of PS2/XBOX are now $200, I'm gonna buy one tomorrow.
I like XBOX for the superb graphics and the games Halo and Project Gotham Racing, but I'm not too keen on the fact it's made by Microsoft, and the controller sucks.
I like PS2 because it has the best selection of games and has a well designed controller. I feel it will be more reliable over all.

Apparently the initial batch of xbox's had some faulty units, but from what I hear that's no longer a problem.
There are 2 types of xbox controllers: they now make the "s" controller that is smaller, for people who like it.
I will give ps2 the nod in games, however, most new games are coming out for both systems, and xbox is supposed to have some real good stuff coming out this fall for xbox only.
Xbox is capable of HD, as well as being more powerfull graphically. It also has a hard drive and broadband adapter (ethernet) built in.
I have an xbox, might get a ps2 eventually off of ebay :p
Every time I come online I wonder if the forums will be up

Im addicted to Halo as of last night but I think either would be a good choice. PS2 is an all time classic.
I guess its six of one, half dozen of the other!

I've had both, got rid of the PS2 because the X-box is better.
Also, keep in mind that there are people currently working to produce advanced mod's for the X-box. Similar to the mod chip in a PS, the mod chip they are trying to develop would allow for different types of gameplay. They talked about being able to play PS2 games on the Xbox with the new mod chip as well. It makes sense, since it is the same gaming system, only with better performance - therefore it is possible. They also mentioned emulators being made, so you can play old games as well.
Anyways, this is probably a little far fetched from now. But, in no time I'm sure the mod chip will be ready. If you don't think X-box is better then PS2 now, you will once it is released.

Honestly, i'd go with the PS2. Xbox is has more potential in how powerful it is, but apparently, alot of the third part game producers aren't fully into making games for them. I've got the Xbox, PS2, and Gamecube. Overall he PS2 is very strong with third party companies. Gamecube is catching up slowly with their Nintendo trademarks. As i rate the systems, i'd say, "PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox". Go with the PS2, first. Then when the games start popping out for Xbox, then buy it. It will take a few months or so until they unleash the Xbox's power. Halo right now is the best game that came out so far for all systems (in a while).

Go PS2, then Xbox. Or you could be like me, and go with the Gamecube. I can't wait til Metroid Prime pops out, along with Zelda, Mario Sunshine, and Resident evil Zero. Right now, i'd take the xbox mainly for Halo.
summary: Xbox = power w/out games PS2 = less power, with better games.

I have in X-box and I think its AWESOME!! I've only played PS2 once, but I definitely think the X-box is better... but that might be because I have one.
Plus the game selection is really growing. Just picked up Morrowind, its very cool.
I dunno about PS2, but X-box can also be set up as a DVD player.

Overall I'd go with the PS2 every time. I agree with DBZjunior and I dont see X-box coming close to the library of games available for PS2. I have just about every console known to man and waited until the price drop to pick up the gamecube and x-box. All 3 have their benefits/faults but ps2 gets my vote because of the larger/better game selection and I just feel at home with it.
of course, i'm still pissed they're not releasing games for the Dreamcast any longer...

Go with the XBOX. Though as soon as someone hacks that system and makes it easy to a computer OS (like linux), on it, it will either go up in price or die since sales of it are leveraged future game sales...
