Personally, i like the VW one better.
but for my SVT i'm going to go with the ford one because it's ford and IMHO a vw antenna on a ford in this case looks tacky (just a bit below rice :-D )
don't buy those $5 POS. The VW one (which is actually made by FUBA, same as one for BMW, Audi, etc) has an amplifier in the base to account for the short length of the antenna. It is required to get any reasonable radio reception ifyou don't live in flat land (DFW ;-) )
I'm not sure how the Ford one is constructed. Any info on this?
i haven't looked at the end of the cable inside the fender on my ford. but the fuba kit comes with a long coax with a powerlead running along side. it's grounded through the body. The connector is a screw type coax (like BNC but actually threaded) and a seperate spade type connector for the power lead. The power lead is for the amplifier. On my GTi i had it connected to the remote wire on my clarion as well as one amp. It doesn't take much current. One could also connect it to the remote antenna wire i 'spose.

i was thinking of getting a spare antenna base from the junk yard, shaving it down and filling it with bondo and then paint to match. like PM summer said:
would look ok, better than a hole, worse than shaving.

Riced antenna when just about every Euro Co. is supplied from Fuba? :rolleyes: The antenna on the Lotus is a Fuba so I suppose the Lotus is rice. I'd go with the Fuba i.e. VW. It's more compact then extremely long one on the Focus. Their is a company that makes a smaller antenna that fits the Focus base if you wanted to stick with OEM. You's have to check Focaljet.com for details on that though.

The rear fender antenna is an eye soar, but I would rather have it than go with the ford focus antenna. That would bug the hell out of me everytime I looked at my car. It just looks like it is in the way. Of what I don't know. The Vw antenna is out of the way and gives the car a more european look.
since I'm on here, does anyone know why the st200 front bumper (like the little blue car on the top of some of these pages) doesn't fit on a contour. I want to get my hands on one and make it work?

AFAIK the mondeo antenna is the same as on the focus. the first time i saw the focus type antenna was on a cougar and i thought they wanted to be euro style but without biting too hard. but now i kind of like it. i just think a mondeo style antenna on the front of a contique would look more natural then a fuba on the back. it is a bit longer than the fubas but that's ok. -eric

You can find the antenna complete kit at: www.vwparts.com for $50.PAA, I suggest the BAT Mondeo antenna. Looks right on the car and is cheap. You have a Ford NOT a Volkswagen. I left my old antenna in place and simply unhooked it. You may have to sell the car someday!

I just installed my BAT Mondeo antenna on my SVT the other day. Looks nice IMO. Some opinions differ but in the end its my car and I like the look of it. Fairly inexpensive and not much of a PITA to put on. Just takes a couple hours and some drilling into your roof!

I might look at the mondeo antenna some more before I decide, Right now I am working out all the crap that will go into plugging the hole in the fender. I might be able to meet with a guy that my brother-in-law lives next to that does body work. Then I have to buy paint so my b-i-l can spray my fender. It won't be too bad spending the money on paint, I have to fix a few things like my rear bumper. It is scratched to hell because of people dragging stuff out of the trunk instead of lifting it out. Anyway I will look into all my options before I buy.
Right now I am looking at some wheels so the antenna can wait a short while.

Welcome to the group from a fellow D/FW'er.
Make sure you mount it on the rear roof. I helped another CEG'er (who shall remain namelesss :p ) figure out the high-pitched whining coming from the front of the car above 60MPH was his antenna. Turns out he mounted the antenna on the front just above the front windshield.
Shaving the old antenna should be easy, it sounds. The antenna wire that goes to the trunk might be long enough to run inside the C-pillar, inside the car. This also depends on what kind of connection the new one has.
